Card Values

As in the other baccarat versions, 10s, jacks, queens and kings also have no value in Punto Banco. Aces are worth one point and all the rest of the cards are worth the same points as their face value.

The total value of a hand is added to the value of the first two cards drawn, and if the total is a two-digit number, ten is subtracted. For example, if the Player's hand is a 6 and an 8, the total value is four: 6+8=14 and 14-10 = 4.

Table layout

Punto Banco is played at large baccarat tables with seating for up to 12 or 14 players, two dealers and a banker. Sometimes, in smaller venues or online, you can play at smaller tables, such as those used in blackjack or mini-baccarat.

There are two designated areas on the table for Punto (player) or Banco (bank) bets. There may also be a third box for Even bets – or Tie bets. The game is played with six or eight decks of cards shuffled by the dealer before each round. Players place their bets on the Punto, Banco, or Egalite slots.

When all bets are placed and Punto Banco strategies are in place, the player in first place (or the first to the dealer's right) draws four cards and hands them to the dealer. Rules For The Player

• If the player's hand has a total value of zero to five, a third card is drawn.
• If the total is six or seven, the player stands.
• If the hand is a small natural - eight or a big natural - nine, the player wins.

Rules For The Bank

The rules for the Bank are a bit more complicated as this is the last hand to be drawn and the drawing of a third card depends not only on the original cards dealt to the Player's hand, but also on the additional cards that are determined to be the rules described above are drawn.

• If the total of the Bank's hand is zero to three, a third card is drawn regardless of the Player's hand.
• If the total of the Bank's hand is four, a third card is drawn if the Player's hand is two to seven.
• If the Banker has a five and the value of the player's hand is four to seven, a card is drawn.
• For a Bank hand with a total of six and a Player hand with a value of six or seven, a third card may only be drawn if the Player has already drawn a third card and the total of all three cards is made.
• The Banker must pass if the hand is seven.
• A value of eight or nine means that both the Banker and the Player must remain standing.

Outcome

When all extra cards have been dealt according to these rules, there is a clear winner – either the Player or the Bank, or a Tie if the two hands are of the same value. The payoffs of the hands are:

• Banco pay bets 19:20*
• Even bets pay 8:1

*There is a 5% commission on the Banco bet which is deducted for the payout of winning Banco bets. All losing bets will be cashed before winning bets are paid out. If the round has ended in a tie, the dealer pays winnings to players who have placed bets on the Egalité bet.

Players who have bet on Punto or Banco do not lose their bet in case of a tie. They can choose to leave their bets and use them for the next round, change them or withdraw them.
